Sir Thomas Blackwell's Regiment of Foote

Of Blackwell's:

Historical re-enactment - what's that?

There are several thousand people around the world whose idea of a good weekend is to drive hundreds of miles on a Friday night, set up a tent in a field miles from anywhere, dress up in funny clothes and spend 48 hours in a time-warp.

Some find the excitement in the opportunity to pick up a reproduction weapon, be it musket or pike, and spend a couple of hours pretending to beat the living daylights out of your notional enemies, for the entertainment of the paying public. Others delight in the effort in getting every detail of their activity as correct as they can research.

Whatever the personal attraction, we all enjoy these weekends, spent in company with like-minded people, and generally devoted to having a good time doing something a bit different from normal 20th century life.

Sir Thomas Blackwell's is a Regiment of the King's Army, the royalist element of the English Civil War Society. We take part in battles, skirmishes, sieges and 'living history' re-enactments organised by the Society.

Normally the public display activity for any one unit takes about two to four hours of the day. Add another couple of hours for drill and the inevitable standing about while officers work out what's happening, and that leaves a mere 18-20 hours a day to relax with your friends.

Where else can you find free camping all over Britain with a great bunch of people to share it with?
