The Oxford Company
Host Regiment: Ralph, Lord Hopton’s Regiment of Foote
24th & 25th August Bank Holiday 2003
Lord Hopton’s Regiment of Foote invite you all to Lytchett Minster, near Poole in Dorset, for a large R.I.E. over the August Bank Holiday. Underwritten by the catering company Scolarest, the event is being held to raise funds for their chosen charity, ChildLine.
The event will consist of a rolling programme of events throughout Sunday and Monday, concluding with a skirmish on both days.
To get there: By vehicle from the north and east find the M27 around Southampton, travel west along the A31 to its junction with the A350 [just north of Poole] where you turn south, signposted “Poole”. From the west use the A35 and A31 to the A350 junction. ECWS signs will guide you from there. By public transport: take a train or coach to Poole, and then a bus to Lytchett Minster. The bus depot at Poole is walking distance from the station. Ask to be dropped off as close as possible to the Courtyard Craft Centre.
Camping: The official campsite will be open from noon Friday 22nd until noon Tuesday 26th, but if you wish to camp on the site from Saturday 16th [at a cost of £1 per night per ‘non organising’ abode] with only water – the loos arrive Friday morning! - just turn up! The signs will be out, and one of our organisers will be on site most of the time.
Please note: Although in adjacent fields to where the event has been held before [the landowner has kept his promise to have us back!], we are NOT using the same campsite or battle site.
Local Amenities: The nearest pub is St. Peter’s Finger, which has now gone up-market into the predominately catering trade. Consequently there will be a beer tent on site selling quality ales (from Friday 22nd). Profits from this enterprise will also be going to ChildLine, so we encourage you all to use their supplies: enjoy yourselves in a good cause!
